TUNING & REGULATION

How does your piano sound - and feel?

Piano tuning involves adjusting each of the pianos more than 200 strings to precise frequencies that align and correspond with each other to produce a harmonious sound. Bangert Piano excels at high quality “Aural” tunings while also implementing, in certain situations such as large pitch adjustments, the latest in technology to produce the finest tunings available.

In contrast, piano regulation encompasses those mechanical aspects of the playing mechanism that are not necessarily focused on in piano tuning. The compacting and settling of buckskin, cloth, and felt from wear and tear as well as the dimensional alterations in wood and wool from humidity changes, result in a piano action that does not respond as efficiently or properly as it once did. When this occurs, the piano action needs to be regulated to return it’s parts to their proper alignment and interaction with each other. Regulation is a “tune-up” for the piano action.

Together, tuning and regulation complete a proper maintenance program for your piano. Whereas tuning corrects the pitch of your piano, regulation attends to the range, touch, and responsiveness of your instrument—both collectively priming your piano for an exceptional musical experience.
